Object Theatre
"Seolmundae Halmang and the Velvet Moles" is an object theatre performance that reimagines the legend of Seolmundae Halmang, a mighty creator goddess from Jeju mythology, alongside a gang of mischievous velvet moles.Combining shadow puppetry, mask play, and materials like paper and rope, the performance unfolds with whimsical imagination. It invites children to face failure and imperfection head-on and to discover the ironic beauty that lies in life’s messy truths.
• Synopsis
A long time ago, Seolmundae Halmang used her huge body to create Jeju Island. But back then, many others called her clumsy and told her she was just a big troublemaker.“Just stay still. That’s the best way you can help!”
Feeling sad and ashamed, Seolmundae Halmang hid deep in the mountains for 500 years. One day, she came back—with a big idea:“I’ll build a perfect island where everyone can be happy!”
Now a very picky perfectionist, she started working right away. But her digging and building made it hard for the animals who lived there.
Meanwhile, the velvet moles—known to all the animals as silly troublemakers—saw a chance.“This is it! We can be heroes!”But instead of helping, they made a big mess and ruined Seolmundae’s perfect plan. She cried and cried, and her huge tears became a giant flood! Now, the animals are mad at the velvet moles, too.
Can Seolmundae Halmang, who dreamed of a perfect island, and the velvet moles, who just wanted to be liked, still find a way to make their wishes come true?
