“How does the world look through the eyes of an elderly person with dementia?”
Dementia is often said to be a disease that kills not only the patient but also those around them. For humans, who live by holding on to their memories, losing those memories might be far more terrifying than we imagine. It may sound a bit cliché, but what is truly precious does not change.
• Synopsis
Hwang, an elderly man in his eighties, has recently begun to lose his memory more and more often. He frequently makes mistakes that leave his family bewildered. He has developed dementia.
Having come down south during the war and built a life for himself from nothing, he didn’t exactly have a picture-perfect relationship with his son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and the rest of his family, but he had still lived a hard-working life.
The family doesn’t want to send him to a nursing home, yet they also don’t feel confident about caring for him themselves, so they hire a private caregiver named Oki to look after him at home.
Each family member is already dealing with their own problems, but with the arrival of Oki, who is warm and trustworthy, they seem to regain a bit of stability. However, when the elderly man mistakes Oki for a woman he once loved in the past, the household is thrown into chaos once again…
